Guyana has made substantial progress towards many of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Guyana is one of eight countries that are receiving support for the advancement of the health-related MDGs through the EC/ACP/WHO Partnership. The EC/ACP/WHO Partnership on Health MDGs was developed by the European Commission (EC) in alliance with the World Health Organization (WHO) to advance health objectives related to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in selected countries within the African, Latin American, and Caribbean regions. The broad objectives of the EC/ACP/WHO Partnership have fallen under four main program umbrellas: 1) MDGs (Capacity building & interagency collaboration for the MDGs). 2) Making Pregnancy Safer (MPS). 3) Disease Surveillance and Control Programmes (Mala-ria, HIV/AIDS and TB). 4) Health Information Systems. Guyana is working on each of these program umbrellas and the Partnership is contributing to the synergistic advancement of all of the MDGs, but particularly MDGs 4, 5, 6, and 8. In Guyana the MDG component has specifically been targeted to increase interagency collaboration and capacity building.
