Abstract
At the socio-cultural level - Health in El Salvador has been traditionally viewed from the perspective prism of the disease, meaning that most resources are directed towards curative rather than preventive processes. However, health promotion and illness prevention are slowly taking their rightful place on the agenda, thanks in part to the ideals and practices of FVP. At the national level - In 2007, the Ministry of Public Health in El Salvador (MSPAS) launched health care reform, which strategy was to implement the family health model; the initiative of FVP arrived just in time, since it supported the strategies of the national policy. In the context of the MDGs, this renewed focus on family health is a welcome approach for the achievement of at least two MDGs, namely reducing child mortality and improving maternal health.
