Natural infection with Echinococcus is reported in the pampas gray fox, Dusicyon Gymnocercus A total of 250 of the foxes were examined, and 38 of them harbored the tapeworm in varying quantities up to several hundred per animal. The parasites were fully developed and gravid in at least five of the foxes. E. granulosus is common in dogs, and hydatidosis is a serious health problem for man and livestock in the central and southern parts of the province of Buenos Aires, Argentina, where the foxes were captured. Studies are in progress to determine whether the fox tapeworms are of that same species(AU)
