dc.description.abstractHospital statistics can be used at the international, national, local, and data-originating levels. Comparative analysis at the international level makes it possible to evaluate the changes that have occurred in succeeding periods and to establish practical medical goals for the future; these concepts can be applied at the national and local levels and the results of the analysis can be used for purposes of health planning in the area concerned as well as to define the health conditions of the population. However, it is at the data-originating level that hospital statistics are most useful, for physicians and medical services as well as for patients, since they bring to light defects that are well worth correctingen_US
dc.description.abstractPAHO has initiated a project designed to help countries obtain and use hospital statistics depending on their capacity to process the data. Hospital records activities, through advisory services and training of medical records personnel, have been stressed.
