On the other hand, in Asian and Far Eastern areas where a majority of reported intakes ranged from 1,000 to 2,500 I.U., clinical vitamin A deficiency occurred in parts of the populationAccording to surveys in Latin America, carried out by national nutrition institutes and organizations, 72 percent of the localities surveyed had average intakes under 3,000 I.U. per person per day, and 15 percent, under 1,000 I.U.
